Windows 10 October 2018 Update Arrives Next Month

In line with the ongoing IFA 2018 electronics show in Berlin, Microsoft has today announced the official name of its next major Windows 10 update. The Redmond giant is sticking with its naming scheme for the year, with Windows 10 October 2018 Update scheduled to go live sometime next month.

Windows 10 October 2018 update, codenamed Redstone 5, will bring a number of new features and improvements to Microsoft’s desktop OS. This update will debut the cloud clipboard that allows you to sync copied content across devices (very similar to Apple’s Universal Keyboard), Your Phone app that allows you to send links to your Windows 10 device from Android/ iOS or vice-versa.

This update will also introduce the dark-themed File Explorer (finally!), Search previews, along with the SwiftKey on-screen keyboard, and updated snipping tool, Xbox Game bar, and Notepad app. You can also expect Microsoft’s Fluent design to be uniform and other minor tweaks. In its official blog post, Microsoft’s Corporate VP Roanne Sones says,

With this update, we’ll be bringing new features and enhancements to the nearly 700 million devices running Windows 10 that help people make the most of their time.

All of the aforementioned features have been available to Windows 10 Insiders, who have been testing them, for the past few months. The final October 2018 Update build will also first be rolled out to the testers to iron out any final bugs, before being made available to everyone else.

On the other hand, Microsoft has already started prepping its next update, which is due in the first half of 2019. This release is being called 19H1 and is available to its Skip Ahead testers, but there is currently no word of the new features coming to Windows 10 with the next update – due around April 2019.
